Economist's Corner - January 25, 2021- New Jersey Gross State Product, International Trade and Commerical Real Estate

About the Economist's Corner

The “Economist’s Corner,” delves into economic data, policies, and issues impacting New Jersey’s economy. Through bi-monthly blog posts, the Economist’s Corner will provide in-depth analysis of data for non-economists interested in understanding what’s happening in the Garden State.

The Economist’s Corner is an important component of the NJEDA’s role in supporting Governor Murphy’s plan for a more equitable, inclusive economy. It will shed light on the ways economic prosperity is distributed and will provide clear, accessible economic analysis that community leaders and business owners can use to implement changes that will drive more sustainable and equitable growth.

The Economist’s Corner is curated by the NJEDA’s Chief Economist Richard Kasmin.

Richard Kasmin, NJEDA Chief Economist

Richard Kasmin is the Chief Economist for the NJEDA, bringing a wealth of knowledge and experience in economics and statistical analysis to the NJEDA. Richard spent more than 20 years as an economist and strategist in the financial investment industry, specializing in analyzing and forecasting economic activity, labor market dynamics, and inflation.

Immediately prior to joining the NJEDA, Richard spent two years an analyst at the National Institute of Early Education Research, where his work focused on public financing and the net economic benefits of early childhood education.

Along with his work for the NJEDA, Richard is also an adjunct professor of macroeconomics at County College of Morris. Richard holds masters’ degrees in economics from NYU and business administration from Cornell University, and he is currently a PhD candidate in education policy at Rutgers University, specializing in the economics of education.
