Pursuant to P.L.2018 c. 91, the former New Jersey Commission on Science and Technology has been re-established as the New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT), recognizing the role and the importance of innovation developed at the State’s institutions of higher education and businesses to the economy of this State.

CSIT has been established to exercise oversight for the responsibility of implementing, evaluating, and formulating long-range plans and programs for science, innovation, and technology in New Jersey.

New Jersey SBIR/STTR Direct Financial Assistance Program

In 2019, CSIT established a new SBIR/STTR Support Program in New Jersey. The purpose of the program is to enhance NJ’s innovation economy by providing technical and financial support to NJ’s small businesses seeking to or participating in the federal SBIR/STTR program. The Direct Financial Assistance Program has two components: Direct Funding (For Federal Phase I, Fast-Track, and Direct-to-Phase II Award/Contract Recipients) and Bridge Funding (For Federal Phase II SBIR/STTR Applicants).

Clean Tech Seed Grant Program

The Clean Tech Seed Grant Program, developed in coordination with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) is aimed at helping New Jersey based early-stage clean tech/clean energy companies accelerate development and innovation of clean technologies to transform new discoveries from research stage into commercially viable technologies, leading to industry and investor interest.

Covid-19 has caused unprecedented disruptions in every aspect of our lives, our work environment and communities. This has posed many challenges, and also unique opportunities, for innovation i4n New Jersey. Leaders from New Jersey government, industry, academia, and the investment community discussed strategies and resources for accelerating innovation in New Jersey in the COVID economy. In this virtual event, speakers provided the latest information on financial resources, government programs and strategies, inclusive innovation, academic innovation and entrepreneurial resources all with a goal to keep the innovation ecosystem in New Jersey growing!
