Darrell Penn, MPA

Associate Director of Strategic Planning, Merck & Co. Inc.

Darrell Penn is an Associate Director of Strategic Planning with Merck.  He works within the Commercial Assessment organization where he is responsible for informing company global investment decisions for in-license and business development opportunities across a broad spectrum of therapeutic areas.  Prior to his current role, Darrell was a Senior Global Analyst where his work focused on Merck’s flagship vaccines aimed at shingles prevention and human papillomavirus/HPV prevention.  Darrell has also served as part of the diabetes marketing team where he managed the company’s award winning diabetes education program.
Darrell, beyond his marketing and business development roles, is also a Merck Global Health Fellow.  This unique opportunity allowed him to spend several months in Zambia working exclusively with the nonprofit Africare.  There, he developed an innovative national social franchise model for a community based health support system aimed at reducing maternal mortality.
Darrell's experience prior to Merck includes serving as a Director for a Foundation focused on glaucoma prevention, supporting the health policy needs for a Member of Congress and working as a Consultant with clients that included large healthcare delivery systems and pharmaceutical manufacturers.
Darrell received his Master's in Public Affairs from Princeton University and his Bachelor's in Economics from the University at Albany (SUNY).
